Wood Characteristics

Solid wood has unique characteristics that can include knots, cracks, mineral deposits, inclusions, as well as variations within the grain and the pigment of the wood. On occasion, filler or a wood patch may be required. Wood is an organic, hygroscopic material which absorbs and releases moisture depending on the surrounding environment. In order to reduce defects such as splitting and warping, the timber is treated, seasoned and dried before being used to create your furniture, although some natural movement should still be expected. The first 12 months will be the toughest, as it's the first time the timber will experience all four seasons and temperatures indoors. After this settling period, the furniture should have acclimatised and gone through the majority of movement you can expect to see. Each made to order product is unique and therefore no two are exactly alike; variations in height, width, depth and the wood characteristics can occur.

Cleaning & Maintenance

What Type Of Finish Will You Use On My Furniture?

All of our furniture is finished in either a hard top oil or lacquer, the details are included in the product description. Our finishes are child, pet and eco-friendly.

 Are Your Finishes Stain Resistant?

Yes, all of our finishes are hard wearing and stain resistant. Please note that this does not mean the finished product will be 100% stain-proof, as harsh staining foods / chemicals can still affect the finish. If any stains do occur, immediate action should be taken to attempt prevention of the stain settling into the wood. There are many different stain removal techniques to be found online, but please ensure that the technique chosen does not compromise the finish of the piece. If you are unsure on which method to use or need further advice, please don't hesitate to contact us.

How Should I Clean My Furniture?

The beauty of our furniture is that its very easy to clean. We suggest you don’t use an alcohol or solvent based cleaner as this can damage the finish so we recommend any diluted soap based product. We also have a specialist product which cleans and maintains your furniture to keep it looking as beautiful as the day that you received it. This can be purchased from our accessories section of our website.

Do I Need To Maintain My Furniture?

Customers have a responsibility to ensure their furniture is protected and maintained to prevent any stains or damage from occurring, and proactive care should be taken for your furniture. The beauty of solid wood furniture is that it will age gracefully, however we do recommend that from time to time you clean it with either our cleaning product or a similar wood cleaning product. Use coasters, placemats and table runners to help prevent marks and stains. Wipe your item clean with a soft, dry cloth after each use.

Assembly

Will My Furniture Require Assembly?

All of our tables, desks, benches and beds require assembly, together with some of our chairs. Please see the product description for details. This is purely for transportation.

Our units and sideboards will on occasion require just the legs attaching.

Some of our sofas and armchairs require assembly becuase they are from our 'sofa in a box' range, designed for spaces with difficult access. These only take 10 minutes to assemble and don't require tools.

Is Assembly Easy?

Yes, we always make assembly easy with instructions included, you will only require a screwdriver or the supplied allen-key tool.

Are All The Holes For Assembly Pre-Drilled?

With the exception of our reclaimed and pine tables and desks, yes. The reason we don't drill holes for pine and reclaimed is becuase we supply sharp 'Reisser Cutter' screws which make their own holes and are very easy to install with a screw driver, we have found that different customers like to place the legs closer or further away from the table edges on these tables.
